Kulak Ceramic

Sculpt & Study Collab w/ Paint:Lab

$850.00

Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6 pm, starting June 10th to September 1st!

In this program, students will be given 5 lbs of porcelain clay to create a standing sculpture while being guided through slab roll and hand-building techniques. Students will learn how to refine sculpts with clay tools and slip. Students will then study perspective by breaking the sculpture into technical drawings using orthographic projection and axonometric line drawings. Students will then build a still-life drawing “studio” out of cardboard and learn about creating dimension with light and shadow by drawing a still-life of their sculpture. Following the still life, students will create a color-mixing guide and use non-toxic underglaze to glaze their sculpture! Work will be ready for pick up one week after camp is over.

Students will spend a total of four days in each studio.

  • Day 1: At Kulak Ceramic, students will learn about clay varieties and applications and use slab rolling techniques to build their sculpture base from porcelain clay.
  • Day 2: At Kulak Ceramic, students will use hand-building techniques to finish the sculpture.
  • Day 3: At Kulak Ceramic, students will be introduced to tools for refining and retouching clay.
  • Day 4: At Paint:lab, students will observe a demonstration on creating a sphere using scaled graphite pencils. Following this, they will engage in 90 minutes of individual practice. During this time, they will choose a simple 3D object to draw from provided reference material and construct a cardboard box lighting studio for a brief still-life session. The instructor will provide guidance during the individual practice.
  • Day 5: At Paint:lab, students will create a still life of their sculpt from week one using their lighting box and sculpt with graphite pencils.
  • Day 6: At Paint:lab, students will learn different technical drawing styles and create isometric drawings of their sculptures on watercolor paper.
  • Day 7: At Paint:lab, students will create color charts with acrylic paint. They will then paint in their watercolor sketch from day 7.
  • Day 9: At Kulak Ceramic, students will glaze their sculptures.

Ages 12-16y/o. Camp will be held over two weeks Monday-Thursday 4-6 pm.

She doesn't just shape clay. She shapes silence, memory, and light.
Born in Istanbul, Zeynep Saraçoğlu listens to the quiet language of earth and transforms it into timeless forms. Each Kulak Ceramic piece is a fragment of poetry — molded by hand, carrying the breath of the Bosphorus, the stillness of ancient courtyards, and the warmth of shared tea.
Now, this silence travels — from her studio in Istanbul to homes across the ocean.
This is not just ceramic.
This is a piece of soul.

Kulak Ceramic is founded in Istanbul in 2012 and now expanding to Los Angeles.

Owned by a woman of many talents, lead designer & ceramic artist Zeynep Saracoglu is excited to share her keen eye for design with the people of Los Angeles. Coming from a family heavily steeped in design, and honing her skills through her studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and years of practical experience, she brings authenticity and character to all the pieces that come through her kiln.

Kulak Ceramic products have been appreciated the world over, being featured in many home design & architecture magazines over the years, such as Maison Francaise, Marie Claire, Skylife, Bone Magazine, XOXO and many more. We had the honor of being featured in Paris Fashion Week by @we.are.ona for Chef Luca Pronzato in 2021.

Of her tableware Zeynep has said “I believe the products we use in daily life should be authentic and reflect the character of the person using them. Kulak Ceramic's handmade designs are unique, artistic, and exclusive, and this is vital for anyone who wants to differentiate themselves from the rest, be it a household or a restaurant.”

With beautiful products that are blessedly dishwasher safe, you’ve come to the right place to find the tableware to set your dining apart and elevate the experience.
